NICKEL NEWS

Nickel Trend: The three-month futures price of nickel on the London Metal Exchange (LME) increased by US$445/ton on February 19, closing at US$19,650/ton, and the spot price also soared by US$605/ton to US$19,810/ton. The average nickel price of this month has reached US$18,720/ton, higher than the US$17,863/ton in last month. Finally, nickel price increased 1030USD in this week, closing at US$19,650/ton. Reason: According to market participants, due to the good recovery of the global economy and the increasing demand for new energy vehicles, the nickel price was expected to keep stable, but it was still needed to observe the possibility of price’s falling.

STEEL NEWS

EUROP: The European Commission (EC) announced that it will initiate a countervailing duty (CVD) investigation on imports of stainless steel cold-rolled flat products originating in India and Indonesia, based on a complaint filed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER) on January 4, 2021. The investigation should be concluded within 12 months and no later than 13 months from the date of the publication of the notice in any case. The provisional measures were expected to be imposed not later than 9 months. The period of investigation was from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. TURKEY: According to the official statistic from Turkey, the total imports of stainless steel in Turkey last whole year showed around 605,000 tons, increased by nearly 12% year on year. Among them, the main supplier was China, with around 164,000 tons, followed by South Korea (161,000 tons), Spain (45,000 tons), and Indonesia (41,000 tons).
